A Little Bit of Magic on Level 12 ✨
Some gigs just fill your soul, and for Cher Funky Punky, visiting the paediatric children’s ward at University Hospital Plymouth is one of those top-tier heart-sparkling moments.
We’ve had the absolute privilege of being welcomed onto Level 12 for a few years now, and honestly? It never gets old. From the moment Cher walks in with her paint brushes and glitter pots, the energy shifts, not just for the kids, but for the families, the staff, and even the students buzzing to soak up the magic.
This time around, there was a particularly beautiful moment that stuck with us. A little one lit up when their dad got his face painted, too. It’s moments like that, when parents join in, that remind us how much it means for a child to feel like their grown-ups are part of the fun. The joy was contagious.
And while we’re talking about grown-ups, let’s just say there were way more staff with painted faces than children. But we LOVE that. These amazing NHS heroes are walking, talking joy-spreaders. One nurse rocked a highland cow on her forehead, and another had a shark swimming across her cheek. And the effect? Instant smiles. Instant calm. The children visibly relax when their nurse arrives, looking like a character from a storybook.
Sometimes, it’s not just about the paint, it’s about what the paint creates: comfort, distraction, silliness, and connection. Especially for children feeling poorly, that little spark of joy means the world.
Cher walked away from this visit feeling heart-warmed and proud. It’s an honour to bring just a sprinkle of magic to a family’s hard day.
