This past weekend, the picturesque village of Cornwood played host to a truly magical gathering, an event created especially for foster carers and their children, designed to celebrate, connect, and uplift like-minded families. And at the heart of it all, the dynamic duo, Lucia Funky Punky and Kaylie Funky Punky, brought their vibrant artistry and infectious energy to the occasion.
This wonderful event was brought to life by FCA South West, led by the incredible Rebecca and her team. They are truly amazing human beings, and you could feel the passion and care that went into every detail. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this wasn’t just another gathering; it was something special. The love, thoughtfulness, and energy poured into the day were absolutely next level.
As we arrived to set up, we were instantly enchanted by the venue. Nestled in the rolling countryside, Cornwood offered the perfect backdrop for a day filled with joy and connection. The sun was shining, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, and the sense of community was truly heartwarming. The wind was strong, but it didn’t stop anyone. A few wayward balloons tried to make a getaway, but they were all swiftly tied down, ready for lift-off.
No celebration is complete without delicious food, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. A brilliant food truck served up mouth-watering burgers and crispy chips that had everyone coming back for seconds, with homemade cakes and refreshing drinks adding a sweet touch to the day.
The grounds were alive with activity, fun stalls, a bouncy castle that kept the little ones bouncing with glee, and a fantastic singer whose voice filled the air and kept spirits high for hours. It was the kind of atmosphere that made you want to dance, laugh, and never leave.
Of course, the highlight for many was the face painting. Lucia funky punky and Kaylie Funky Punky poured their hearts into every brushstroke, transforming faces into dazzling works of art. From majestic birds and delicate flowers to roaring dinosaurs and the ever-popular Spider-Man, the designs were nothing short of spectacular.
One of the proudest moments, Kaylie and Lucia’s very first peacock design, bold, beautiful, and bursting with colour. And let’s not forget the ninja with the red bandana, who stole the show with his fierce look.
Lucia’s personal favourite was her adorable Stitch design, while Kaylie couldn’t stop smiling at her shimmering peacock masterpiece. Working side by side, they shared laughs, swapped techniques, and inspired each other throughout the day.
More than just a fun day out, this event was a celebration of togetherness. Foster families had the chance to meet, share stories, and offer support in a warm, welcoming space. It was a reminder of the strength and beauty found in community, and the joy that comes from simply being together.
Though we didn’t capture many photos, the memories are etched in our hearts. It was, without a doubt, one of the most fun and fulfilling events we’ve ever been part of.
Lucia and Kaylie are already dreaming up their next collaboration. If this event was anything to go by, the future is looking fabulously funky.
