Well, funky friends, this weekend was the end of an era! The very last Winchester Hat Fair (at least for a while) has come and gone, and so has Cher’s Funky Faces. After nearly two decades of colour, glitter, and glorious hat-tastic fun, we’ve been told the festival is taking a break, which means we are too. (at this event)
It has been such an honour to be part of this wonderfully weird, wildly creative celebration all these years. From giant walking teacups, incredible costumes, and hats galore, to this year’s highlights, like the fabulous stilt walking lady with a giant papier-mâché head, and two brilliant sixteen-year-old first-time buskers we saw on Sunday. One was juggling, the other a magician, and Cher’s Funky Punky can confirm it was an absolute pleasure to watch their act. They were great!
This year may have been a bit quieter for us (only two photos, both kindly snapped and shared by others, thank you!), but the sparkle in your eyes and the joy in the streets reminded us exactly why we have kept coming back.
Missed us in Winchester? Don’t worry! We will be popping up in Romsey next weekend, in our usual colourful corner at the Beggars Fair. Come say hi, strike a pose, and let us keep the funky punky spirit alive
Thank you for letting me share your smiles, it truly has been a gift
Until next time... keep it funky!
With paint-stained fingers and a happy heart,
