What a whirlwind of a day, Armed Forces Day 2025 landed in Plymouth with a bang, and a whole lotta glitter, and our very own Kaylie Funky Punky was right in the heart of it all, brushes in hand, rainbow paints ready, and excitement bubbling over.
The weather started out moody, classic British summer, right? But the vibe? Totally hopeful and upbeat. From the moment the first families arrived, the energy was buzzing. The Irwin Mitchell ladies (total gems, by the way) brought the sunshine with their smiles, their support for the community, and their amazing setup.
This was Kaylie Funky Punky's first time painting at Armed Forces Day, and wow, she was blown away. She knew it was a big deal, but nothing prepared her for just how huge and heartwarming this event truly is. So many services came together, and the whole day was just jolly, no other word for it.
It was extra special for Kaylie Funky Punky because her family came along, including her 89-year-old grandfather, a proud Navy veteran. Safe to say, there were a few emotional moments behind the glitter.
Kaylie Funky Punky got some epic face paint requests, from unicorns and butterflies to dinosaurs and camo (though surprisingly, not as many camo designs as expected). And the winner for most unique?
A red tiger with marshmallows. Yep, that’s a new one.
One of her favourite moments? Seeing the girls from her children’s school proudly queuing to get their field gun team names painted on their arms, unity, sparkle, and school spirit all in one.
The partnership with Irwin Mitchell Solicitors was a dream. Their stall had it all, sweets, cupcakes, face painting (obviously), freebies, and a non-stop queue that kept Kaylie Funky Punky busier than a glitter fairy at a unicorn party.
The Irwin ladies weren’t from Plymouth; some travelled from London, and every single one was kind, approachable, and full of heart. One visitor even made a special trip just to thank them for the support they gave her son. Moments like that remind you this isn’t just a job, it’s a connection, community, and care.
Let’s be real, Kaylie Funky Punky learned to pack more drinks and snacks next time (breaks? What breaks?). But more than that, her heart was left full. The kids were kind, polite, and a joy to paint. The community feel was unmatched. And the Irwin Mitchell team? Fantastic to work with.
Kaylie Funky Punky is already counting down the days until next year and crossing her fingers for another invite.
