How exciting! This was the first time I can actually remember being on board a Naval Ship. Although I was christened on HMS Arethusa (F38). There was three of us on the Funky Punky team today. Judy, Kaylie and I were placed in the Explosives area along with magicians Ozzy D and Harry Kazzam who were making some fantastic balloons. They also did magic shows. We were too busy to watch that though. By 12:30 it had slowed down. This meant we were able to practice a few new designs on each other. It was also Kaylie's first paid event face painting. She did really well and jump straight in head first, or should that be brush first by offering the children 'any' design. My favourite request was a lovely young lad that wanted to be a policeman. Challenge on. In the 17 years I’ve been doing this job this was my first ever policeman. I’m happy with how it turned out. We had requests for Unicorns, Sharks, Tigers, Cats and much more. To top it all our kit was carried in and out for us by the crew. Everyone had a really good day. Thanks to Lt Emily Witcher for booking us and all the crew for being such a sport. We look forward to next time.

I have been face painting and creating smiles with my hair braids, tattoos and body paints for over 15 years after finally taking the jump and becoming self employed in 2006. Having a large network of friends I have been able to establish a network of quality face painters and glitter tattoo artists who have a passion for the job which shows in their work throughout the South & South West of England. Orginating from a customer service & sales background the best thing I ever did was become self employed. The money might not be as good but the job satisfaction seeing lots of happy smiles is the best. I hope to continue for many more years to come.
