Devon Fire & Spice Festival
Marie and I arrived at Powderham Castle in Exeter for the Devon Fire & Spice Festival to a welcome of deer grazing happily in the beautiful grounds. What a fabulous view and great setting for any event. We were lucky to camp under a beautiful Sweet Chestnut Tree where Marie was able to hang her hammock.
We were pitched by the bouncy castles and next to Aussies's Hot Sauces . Matt the owner and his mate Marc were such fun throughout the festival. Matt is also a previous chilli eating competition winner! Watching their customers walk by after testing their produce was also quite amusing. On being asked if i'd like to try anything my response was,
"I'm not that silly!"
Matt on the otherhand decided to see if he could win another competition...
That was an experience to see live!
Marie was asked to Spice up our Aussie neighbours and did a fabulous job on him!
This was the first Devon Fire & Spice Festival arranged by the extremely successfull organisers of the Dorset Chilli Fest. There were a great selection of stalls all with a chilli theme of course but with a great range of products. I never knew there could be so many different uses for chilli including Satan's Gummy Bears! Ha Ha Ha. I think the fact the weather was scorchio encouraging everyone to the beach along with the location being not on a main route and that is was a first event was why the footfall was not a busy as expected. Having said that we had a lovely weekend away from the summer hecticness, met some great people and covered costs. It always takes time for something new to build a reputation and we are super happy to be here at the beginning of what I hope is a long running festival.
The most popular services for us were henna and hair braids with face painting and hair feathers a close runner up. Thank you to everyone who came by Cher's Funky Faces, joined in the Funky Punky fun and allowed us to take your pics. Hopefully we'll see you again next year!
